I Almost Flunked English But Went On To Make Millions of Dol
The Guinness Book of World Records listed Joe Girard as the “World’s Greatest Retail Salesman” for 12 consecutive years. He holds the singular distinction of having sold an average of six cars a day over his career. Recently, Joe Girard told me:
“Joe, I can sell in person to individuals in a personal way – in fact, I can sell more cars per day than anyone else. Yet, I can’t do what you do — you sell millions of products to masses of people through the sheer power of print.”
Salesmanship in Print
When you look at it from Joe Girard’s perspective, it’s hard to deny the awesome power of writing good sales copy – which I call “salesmanship in print” — a power that anyone can take advantage of. You don’t need good looks, a charming personality or even great intelligence. In fact, you don’t even have to pass English.
This is why it baffles me when people desperately rack their brains trying to find ways to make money — when the greatest opportunity is staring them right in the face. What’s even more mystifying is that those very same people, when presented with ingenious approaches to writing copy that sells, take the skill for granted and don’t use it to make personal fortunes for themselves.
Flunking English
Not many people know this, but I almost flunked English back in high school. In addition, I don’t know many big words, unlike the rest of my advertising and marketing colleagues — and my writing style is quite unsophisticated to boot. Yet, by learning to incorporate into my sales copy all the things about how the human mind reacts to certain words and phrases that I’ve learned over the years, I have made millions of dollars for myself.
The most important lesson you must remember is this: If you learn nothing else but the proper use of psychological principles in writing sales copy, you will always make more money than you’ll ever need.
The Million-Dollar Grapefruit Farmer
If you’re one of those people who believes that you’re not a good enough writer — and that you couldn’t possibly learn to write ad copy that sells — I want to tell you the story of a man who attended one of my seminars. This man was a grapefruit farmer who had never written sales copy prior to attending my copywriting seminar. In fact, he expressed his doubts that he would get anything at all from the copywriting lessons he learned. Yet, by the end of the seminar, he was able to write direct mail copy to sell grapefruit by mail which, over a period of ten years, has earned him millions of dollars.
Success Leaves Clues
For many years I specialized in “space-age” products, and my claim to fame was in building and selling “the better mousetrap” — from state-of-the art smoke detectors to chess computers to new-fangled calculators — and more recently — to BluBlocker® sunglasses.
But you don’t need a space-age product to make a million dollars. In fact, that is the downfall of most people who enter the marketing field. They find a product, fall in love with it, and try to get the market to buy it. With an unproven product, you could lose a lot of money in the process.
Instead what you should do is find a product that’s already selling well — and use compelling copy to sell it better.
Harmonize with the Marketplace
One of the psychological principles I describe in my book, “Triggers,” is simply this: Your product needs to harmonize with the marketplace.
Here’s a tip that you would definitely find useful: When you’re looking for a product to sell, go to the library and flip through the back issues of magazines — particularly the tabloids. Note those mail order ads that are running week after week, month after month. There’s only one reason why those ads keep running — they’re making money. Those products are already proven to sell well — they’ve demonstrated that they harmonize with the marketplace.
Even if there are many companies that are already competing in those product categories (example: weight loss, hair restoration, and wrinkle products, etc.), don’t worry. If you apply good copywriting guidelines, your marketing efforts will fare better than those who are making money, despite their poor sales copy.
“Splish Splash I Was Takin’ A Bath”
Take a clue from Bobby Darin, a popular singer of the ’50s. Darin was a young singer in New York who, for a long time, tried unsuccessfully to break into the music business. He would go from record company to record company trying to convince them to make an album of him singing popular jazz oldies. He was rejected.
So one day, Darin sat down and wrote a song that fitted or “harmonized” with what the public was buying at the time. What was popular at the time was good old rock and roll sung by black artists — it was called the Motown sound.
The song he wrote was called “Splish Splash” and the words started out, “Splish splash, I was takin’ a bath/ ‘Round about a Saturday night.” It had a good old Motown rock and roll sound — and it became a smash hit, selling millions of copies.
Darin recognized what the market wanted, and he created something that harmonized perfectly with the prevailing market. From his earnings, he himself produced a record in the music genre that he really loved — popular jazz oldies. His song, “Mack the Knife” went on to become a multimillion-selling single and made Bobby Darin famous.
To summarize, you must first have a product that harmonizes with your market. If you haven’t made a substantial amount of money from your marketing efforts yet, sell only products or services that have a ready market — this is the path of least resistance. Afterwards, with the money you make, you can blaze new trails with other products of your own preference.
Joe Sugarman, the best-selling author and top copywriter who has achieved legendary fame in direct marketing, is best known for his highly successful mail-order catalog company, JS&A, and his hit product, BluBlocker Sunglasses. Joe’s new breakthrough book, “Triggers,” reveals 30 powerful psychological triggers that influence people to buy what you’re selling. http://www.roibot.com/tk_psy.cgi?ptyg2

Famous Australian painter, sculptor, scale modeler, writer and editorial cartoonist Norman Lindsay (Norman Alfred William Lindsay) was born on 22 February, 1879 in Creswick, Victoria. He was the fifth child of his parents, Robert Lindsay, an Irish surgeon, and Jane Lindsay. At the age of 16, Lindsay left for Melbourne and worked as an illustrator for local magazine, the “Hawklet”. He married Catherine Agatha Parkinson in the city of Melbourne on the 23rd May, 1900. They had three kids, Jack, Raymond and Philip, and 1918 they became divorced.
In 1902, Rose Soady, who later became his second wife, started modeling for Norman. During his sojourn in Europe from 1909 to 1911, Lindsay made 100 pen and ink illustrations for Petronius’ “Satyricon” in Naples. He also made sketches of model ships that were present in South Kensington Museum, London. It created in Lindsay a passion for ship models that lasted all his life. He returned to Australia in 1911. On 14th January 1920 he wedded Rose Soady and had two children with her.
Lindsay was talented and prolific in all the disciplines he was involved in, including painting on canvas, sculptures in concrete and bronze, woodcuts, pen and ink drawing, and etching. Being talented on so many areas lead to him being known as perhaps the most famous Australian painter. But his frank and excessive nude works stirred up controversy in Australia and abroad. In 1904 his works were considered blasphemous, his novel “Redheap” was banned in 1930, and in 1939 many of his canvases were burnt by protestors in the US.
The nude theme pervades in almost every work of art he’s attempted. “The Sphinx” (watercolor, 1922), “Duality” (sketch, 1920), “Languor” (oil, 1934), and “Court to Peacocks” (oil, 1927) are some of his representative paintings in oil on canvas. The gardens of his house located in Faulconbridge in New South Wales, which has now became the a Gallery and Museum named after Norman Lindsay, are filled with nude sculptures created by Lindsay. Some of the most prominent are the “Reclining Women Fountain”, “Female Figure Holding her Breasts”, “Satyr & Sphinx”, “Siren”, and the “The Satyr Pursuing a Nymph”.
While working as an editorial cartoonist, the ‘Red Menace’ and ‘Yellow Peril’ were the popular themes that he illustrated. “Age of Consent”, “Cousin from Fiji”, “Halfway to Anywhere”, “Saturdee” and “The Cautious Amorist” are some of his famous literary works. “The Magic Pudding”, Lindsay’s book for children, is considered a classic. In 1968 his book of pen drawings was published in Australia and the US, and in 1969 a reprint of his watercolor book was also published.
Norman Lindsay died on 21st November, 1969 leaving behind a large body of art and literature. In 1970 his autobiography “My Mask” was posthumously published. A collection of the works of this famous Australian painter can be found at the Norman Lindsay Gallery and Museum.
how useless others already available are. It is very rare to find an e-book when published on a certain subject, clearly shows just With the publication of WordPress Goldmine, this is exactly what has happened.
Where most of the other affiliate marketing guides ask you to focus on finding the right product through Clickbank and then creating blog to market the product.
WordPress Goldmine tells you a different thing.
Instead, the book will guide and you will learn about the different aspects concerning not only finding the right domain names abut also the right products to promote on your web sites.
This e-book takes an in-depth look at not just the processes but also the different kinds of sites that one can build.
It also gives real live examples that actually provide the value in this e-book, which is unlike any other.
What seems to make this book so special is that those who have already used it have found it easy to understand and follow.
This is because the author has painstakingly broken the book up into five separate sections.
In section one, the author looks at the different ways of building a WordPress blog, plus the steps one needs to take in order to get your blog up and running in the shortest possible amount of time.
This section provides videos that guide you through the whole process.
You will learn how to add the contents to your blog in section 2.
In this section, the author teaches everything from using PLR articles to good original content.
It also teaches how you can get unique content posted to your blog regularly and completely for free and which will help you to develop your own content in no time at all.
Note – free content but of good quality unique content.
Section 3 is the best where I am concerned.
Over here, it clearly explains the different ways in which one is able to monetize a WordPress blog.
It will probably take some time to complete this section as the author provides indepth information on how he himself made a $15,000 income through just one blog post alone.
Of all the sections of the book this is probably the one that really offers you the best value for money.
As not only does the author Mark explain how he made money himself but also shows the exact ways in which you can make money with your blog offline.
A number of plans out state that you should be able to make $$$ in just 30 days, but which are simply often not achievable.
But with this, the author explains how you could be earning an extra $1,000 per week by the end of 2008.
At section 4, you will learn the various ways to promote the sites that you have built.
At this section, it shows a very easy to follow visual diagram and a list of quality sites which can make the difference between yours being a success or failure.
Of all the sections this is probably, the most important of them as very rarely will someone offer to provide details of a traffic generation system which one can easily master and work.
In the final section of this book, it guides you to take your website promotion to a completely different level when building your site.
Although some people may find this section a little daunting, the author has included several warnings at the beginning of it stating that you should have at least mastered the other sections of the book before you move on to this daunting one.

Why do we all love the science fair food projects so much? I think it is because they are so spectacular and we can see the results very clearly. What I think is important, is looking at it another way. The one about the bread mold can be looked at from two sides. One way of looking at it is the growth of the mold itself, meaning growth. The other side is looking at it from the decay side, mold as part of decay.
I think the bread mold one as the mold growing is the most well known one, but now I want to look at it from the decay side and see mold as part of the decay process. What is the role of mold in the process of decay and how can decay be stopped or slowed down.
So, first what is decay? What is the role of decay in nature? What are the conditions necessary for decay? How can decay be slowed down?
For good science fair food projects we always have to start with a hypothesis, which is saying what we want to prove and what we think the outcome will be. It is not important if your hypothesis is proven right or wrong, as long as you follow the proper scientific method and keep record of everything you do. This is the reason why you have to make meticulous notes of all your steps and preferably also take photos of every step as well as the end result.
So, on to our experiment now:
What you need for your experiment:
How to do this project:
This is one of our science fair food projects where we explain how decay can be prevented instead of proving what mould needs to grow on as in the usual “Bread Mould” projects.
